Playoff points accumulate throughout the season based on the results of the monthly tournaments. After the May tournament, the top 7 points earners qualify for the Club Championship Playoffs, and compete for the title of NEBC Champion! and prize money provided by the club. The top points earner gets a very valuable bye in the tournament.

Here's how points are calculated:

Playoff Points Race

You get points for winning matches and you get bonus points (see below) for making it to the top 4 in the main round and the top 2 in the consolation round.

Winning a 7 point match earns 7 points, winning a 9 point match earns 9 points, etc.

If you show up and don't win any matches, you get 2 points.

Bonus points

Main tournament
1st: 50 points
2nd: 25 points
Semi-finalists: 12 points

Consolation tournament
1st: 25 points
2nd: 12 points

In November and May, we play longer matches and bonus points are doubled (though 25 for semi-finalists and 2nd consolation)!

In the event that we get less than 16 players for a tournament, we pay only two places in the main round, and so the losers of the semi-final round go to the consolation round. A player could both make it to the semi-finals in the main round and first or second in the consolation round. In this case, only the higher bonus point reward will be given.

For the 2017/2018 season, we're planning on running two levels of tournaments (Open and Intermediate), but only one points race. Intermediate tournament players will earn 1/2 points. We'll consider running two point races in the future if there is enough continued interest to run two tournaments.
